Vishal TK Eyes Winning Debut at Commonwealth Games After Historic National Record Season

Indian quarter-miler Vishal TK enters his debut Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after creating history with a 44.98-second national record in the men's 400m. The four-time national champion aims to win, following relay medals at the Asian Athletics Championships and months of disciplined preparation under coach Jason Dawson, strengthening India's rising reputation in world athletics.

Indian quarter-miler Vishal TK will enter his maiden Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with unwavering confidence after a remarkable season that has established him among the country's leading sprint athletes. The 22-year-old, who recently became the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400 metres, has declared that his sole focus is to compete for victory and deliver his best performance on one of the biggest stages of international athletics.

Earlier this year, Vishal created history by clocking 44.98 seconds in the men's 400m, setting the current Indian National Record and becoming the first Indian male athlete to complete the event in under 45 seconds. A four-time national champion, he has rapidly emerged as one of Asia's top quarter-milers and heads into his Commonwealth Games debut with growing momentum and confidence.

Vishal also played a crucial role in India's relay success at the Asian Athletics Championships. He helped the Indian team secure the gold medal in the mixed 4x400m relay and the silver medal in the men's 4x400m relay. Ranked among the top 60 men's 400m runners in the world, he is now considered one of India's strongest medal prospects in the sprint events.

Speaking ahead of the Games in a release issued by the Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS), Vishal said he is approaching the competition with a winning mindset built on months of disciplined preparation.

"I'm entering the Commonwealth Games with a mindset to win. "I don't set limits on what I can achieve. I believe in pushing my boundaries every time I compete. Representing India is the biggest motivation, and I'll give everything I have to make the nation proud," he said.

Vishal credited the strong support system around him for helping him prepare for the demands of elite international competition. He said the Inspire Institute of Sports has played a vital role by providing world-class coaching, sports science support, nutrition, recovery facilities and mental conditioning.

"Success is never an individual effort, and I'm fortunate to have an incredible team supporting me. The Inspire Institute of Sport has provided everything an athlete needs—from world-class coaching and sports science to nutrition, recovery and mental conditioning," he said.

The rise of Indian men's 400m running has become one of the country's biggest success stories in athletics in recent years, with Indian athletes consistently challenging some of the world's finest competitors. Vishal believes he is part of a new generation determined to redefine India's standing in global athletics and inspire future athletes.

"It's an honour to be part of a generation that's changing the perception of Indian athletics. We are proving that Indian athletes can compete with the best in the world, and that's incredibly motivating. Every performance is about setting a new benchmark—not just for myself, but for the next generation of athletes who dream of wearing the Indian jersey," he said.

Reflecting on his preparations, Vishal said consistency has remained the defining factor throughout his training programme in recent months. He explained that every session has focused on becoming physically stronger, mentally tougher and technically sharper while learning to remain composed under pressure.

"The biggest focus has been consistency—physically, mentally and technically. Every training session has been about learning how to get stronger, faster and more prepared for the biggest stages. I've grown not only as an athlete but also as a competitor. I've learned to stay composed under pressure, trust my preparation and perform with confidence when it matters the most," he said.

With a historic national record, multiple national titles, relay medals at the Asian Athletics Championships and growing international recognition, Vishal TK now heads to Glasgow carrying India's hopes in the sprint events. His Commonwealth Games debut marks another significant milestone in his career and reflects the growing strength of Indian athletics on the global stage.
